U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Under Secretary, Rafael Borras, and Chief Procurement Officer, Dr. Nick Nayak, have been awarded the Federal Small Business Champions of the Year awards by the Government Technology & Services Coalition (GTSC).

A major entity for small and mid-sized companies in the Federal homeland and national security market, GTSC has recognized the work of Under Secretary Borras and Dr. Nayak, who ensured that the advances, creativeness and efficiency of small businesses are passed on to the homeland security assignment.

In a statement, Kristina Tanasichuk, CEO at GTSC said, "We believe that Under Secretary Borras and Dr. Nayak have clearly demonstrated their commitment to assuring that the innovation of small companies is constantly applied to the homeland security mission. We believe that the leadership of DHS has recognized that we must have a mechanism to infuse our current system with new ideas, cutting edge technologies and actual solutions -- and small businesses are the source of that."

According to Borras, the organization is proud of DHS accomplishment carried out in association with small businesses.

Federal officials demonstrating spectacular dedication and substantial outputs toward enhancing the environment and accomplishment for small businesses in the Federal market are honored with the annual Federal Small Business Champion of the Year award.

Hassett Willis and Company has been honored by the GTSC with a Member of the Year Award. A GTSC Member who showcases outstanding quality and principles for the Federal government is honored by this award.

GTSC also recognized L3 STRATIS with the Mentor of the Year award.

Julie Hassett, Managing Partner, Hassett Willis and Company said, "After working at the Department of Homeland Security and forming my own woman-owned small business to continue to affect positive change at DHS, Hassett Willis and Company is committed to improving the small business market environment. It is critical that leading small businesses work on behalf of our community to improve the contracting process, encourage and nurture small companies and assure the homeland security market's success."

According to Les Rose, President of L-3 National Security Solutions, the organization is aware of GTSC’s value where big, small and mid-sized organizations associate to resolve challenges and move ahead.
